Where to eat, drink and shop in Antwerp

Do you find yourself getting slightly depressed by seeing everyone's overload of holiday pictures during your lunchbreak-scroll trough Instagram? It’s no fun (we feel ya!) but someone’s gotta keep the world turning – right? Before you book your next trip abroad in a hurry, we’d like you to consider this first: isn’t it easy to please the travel bug within you by visiting the right places at home? Get your ass over to the following three places, which'll make you feel like you've been on a world trip. (While only staying in a 5-km perimeter in and around Antwerp.)

Hotspots in Antwerp - Lazy Jack

Berliner vibes

New hotspots are all about monstera’s and millennial pink these days (a bit predictable, no?), so we jumped for joy when we stumbled upon the eclectic industrial looks of Lazy Jack, located in a former warehouse on Antwerp’s Eilandje. The warehouse got a complete makeover but kept its cool by combining solid wooden furniture – guess whose? – with loads of tropical plants and bohemian touches here and there. Go here to enjoy summery culinary treats (such as grilled prawns or ceviche) or meet other likeminded people during a game of pétanque or an intense yoga session while looking out on the Scheldt. The ultimate place to sit back, relax and enjoy an aperitif with friends in a no-nonsense environment, which feels very Berlin-like to us!

Hotspots in Antwerp - Black & Yellow Coffeebar

Where New York meets Milan

After serving numerous cold brews and cortado’s in Caffènation, our favourite barista Joke De Coninck took the plunge to become her own boss, and how! She recently launched her very own coffeebar Black & Yellow, which combines metropolitan fast-food-chain vibes – think fluorescent lights, white tiled walls and hip-hop blastin’ through the speakers – with the feel of a traditional Italian espresso bar, and is therefore anything you’d expect in Antwerp’s coffeescape of places that feel a lot like your living room. Black & Yellow combines Joke’s love for black coffee and her favourite colour, which is obviously yellow. A must-visit when you’re in the neighbourhood and in desperate need of a caffeine-fix.

Hotspots in Antwerp - The Plant Corner

Welcome to the jungle

Sofie Vertongen is the interior designer responsible for our very first inspiration home #roominantwerp, and has grown Phyt – her webshop of airplants – to a full-blown plant business in just a few years. After successfully organizing a big pop-up with several other small businesses in December, she now launched her own tropical paradise in Antwerp: The Plant Corner. ‘To choose is to lose’ could very well be the tagline of this Pinterest-perfect hotspot, as we’d like to take every kind of tillandsia, Ficus Elastica and Musa Cavendish home. Next to plants, Sofie also makes place for delicate accessories made by Belgian or Dutch designers. No need to fly to Nicaragua; the jungle is just around the corner!
